87 East Main Street
Expressing Inclusivity Through Colour and Space
This conceptual design is situated prominently in the heart of Welland, the architectural addition at 87 East Main Street innovatively enhances the existing modern structure, creating a dynamic visual and experiential dialogue with its surroundings. Inspired profoundly by the influential abstract expressionist artworks of Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko, the design embraces their bold approach to colour, form, and emotional resonance.
The project emphasizes inclusivity by reimagining how spaces can be utilized and experienced, ensuring broad accessibility and openness. Expansive, transparent glass walls dissolve barriers between the interior and exterior, fostering a sense of connection and community engagement. Large-scale panels of vivid primary colours strategically positioned throughout the space serve not only as striking visual statements but also encourage contemplation, introspection, and playful interaction.
Through this deliberate integration of modern aesthetics, artistic inspiration, and inclusive spatial planning, the 87 East Main Street addition invites visitors to pause, reflect, and connect deeply with their environment and each other. It transforms conventional perceptions of space into vibrant, contemplative experiences, making it an exciting and meaningful architectural landmark in Welland.
